AbstractThis TUC report calls for a new approach to the way work is organised in the UK and argues that greater flexibility over working hours should be an option for all employees, not just parents or carers. The report found that requests for flexible working are more likely to be accepted from female members of staff, with the result that women end up paying a part time pay penalty and men end up working longer hours to compensate for the loss of family income. The report makes a number of recommendations for how changes in the way work is managed in the UK can be achieved.
