Work-life balance - Introduction

The Work Foundation aims to continue to develop this website and to raise the quality of the public debate about work-life balance.

Work-life balance is about people having a measure of control over when, where and how they work. It is achieved when an individual's right to a fulfilled life inside and outside paid work is accepted and respected as the norm, to the mutual benefit of the individual, business and society.

Research suggests that people are experiencing a time squeeze, particularly women, and demographics suggest that this is not going to go away. See FAQs for more information.

There are a number of business benefits stemming from work-life balance, which some of our case studies demonstrate.

If you are facing particular challenges in business or in work-life in particular, take a look at our problem-solver.

Businesses who do not have a work-life strategy or who want to improve their strategy may want to look at how they go about making a case.

If you already have a strategy then look at our Benchmarking tool to assess how well you are doing. Making a case also has information about how to improve an existing strategy.
