Jon
joined NatWest in 1983. Currently, he is jointly responsible with a job share
partner for managing a branch.
"In
June of 1998, I met an old colleague of mine, Amanda Fagan who wanted to return
to work as a job share, following her maternity leave," says Jon. "At the time
I was also thinking about my life balance and the idea of job sharing became very
attractive."
Amanda
and Jon work alternate weeks and their partnership is successful. However, they
have to take account of many factors including the business, the team and their
compatibility as a job share partnership in a demanding business environment.
The working pattern is proven and works well - the team work, compatibility and
consistency in both partners has often created more innovative ideas, benefiting
from different views and perspectives."
"This
opportunity has provided a richer quality of life," says Jon. "I have completed
a Management Certificate at Hertfordshire University, pursued my own business
interests and completed some benchmarking activity with other organisations. I
have also had more opportunity to support the local community and been able to
take up fresh-water fishing again."
"I
have been able to continue with my career at management level and, at the same
time, achieve a balance in life for which I am fortunate."
